Criado com um intuito extremo de ser o veículo de produção em série mais rápido do mundo em aceleração, o Dodge Challenger SRT Demon ficou conhecido pelo seu potencial de partida. Afinal, este modelo chegou mesmo a receber o título de carro de produção em série mais veloz do mundo em aceleração.
Contudo, muitos condutores foram sendo surpreendidos pelo facto dos seus Demon serem batidos naquele exercício por desportivos híbridos ou puramente elétricos. Agora, de forma discreta num anúncio do Facebook, a marca americana ‘atira a toalha’ e concede que o Demon continua a ser o “carro de produção em série dos 0 às 100 mph (zero aos 160 km/h)”, mas, em letras pequenas, refere que tal é aplicável, “excluindo veículos de produção limitada e híbridos/elétricos”.
O Demon consegue acelerar dos zero aos 96 km/h em apenas 2,3 segundos, embora esse registo apenas seja possível de obter em condições ideais.
Recorde-se que o Challenger SRT Demon conta com o V8 de série mais potente do mundo – um bloco Hemi V8 de 6.2 litros e 840 CV –, surgindo equipado igualmente com um supercompressor de maior capacidade e tem o ‘redline’ às 6.500 rpm. Este modelo é tão intenso que o próprio sistema de ar condicionado é utilizado para arrefecer o ar do compressor e assim melhorar o rendimento do motor. Ou seja, mais potência.
Este sistema SRT Power-Chiller é complementado pelo After-Run Chiller que, na prática, ajuda a arrefecer igualmente o motor por intermédio do sistema de refrigeração (na sua plenitude e não apenas com a ventoinha) até mesmo depois de o motor ser desligado. A combinação destes dois sistemas pode ajudar a baixar a temperatura do ar de admissão em 7,2º C.
No entanto, a Dodge parece estar agora atenta aos feitos dos híbridos e dos elétricos, com a sua potência disponível de forma quase imediata e deixa o aviso aos proprietários dos Demon.
