O piloto australiano Toby Price (KTM) segurou a liderança da competição das motas na 45.ª edição do rali Dakar de todo-o-terreno, depois da 13.ª e penúltima etapa, em que o francês Sébastien Loeb (HRX) fez história nos carros.
O antigo campeão mundial de ralis conquistou hoje a sexta vitória consecutiva, feito inédito na história do Dakar, sétima na edição deste ano. Desde 2011, com o espanhol Carlos Sainz, que um piloto não vencia tantas etapas na mesma edição.
Loeb cumpriu os 154 quilómetros cronometrados de hoje, entre Shaybah e Al-Hofuf, na Arábia Saudita, em 02:26.17 horas, deixando o segundo classificado, o qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota) a 05.28 minutos e o sueco Mattias Ëkstrom (Audi) em terceiro, a 06.31.
Este foi o 23.º triunfo de Loeb na competição, em sete participações, mas continua a ser Nasser Al-Attiyah a liderar a competição, com 01:21.42 horas de vantagem para Loeb, que cedeu muito tempo nas primeiras etapas devido a furos e problemas mecânicos.
Nas motas, Toby Price, que partia com uma vantagem de 28 segundos na geral, aproveitou novamente as bonificações dadas aos três primeiros pilotos em pista para segurar o primeiro lugar.
O australiano foi o quinto mais rápido do dia, a 02.28 minutos do vencedor, o argentino Kevin Benavides (KTM).
O piloto da KTM ainda parou cerca de 23 minutos junto ao austríaco Mathias Walkner (KTM), que sofreu uma queda durante a etapa e ficou a queixar-se de dores nas costas. No final, viu a organização retirar o tempo da paragem e atribuir-lhe a vitória na etapa, com 27 segundos de vantagem sobre o sul-africano Michael Docherty (Husqvarna), que compete na categoria Rally 2. O argentino Luciano Benavides (Husqvarna) foi o terceiro, a 57 segundos do irmão.
Desta forma, Price e Benavides chegam à última etapa da prova separados por 12 segundos, com o norte-americano Skyler Howes (Husqvarna) em terceiro, a 01.31 minutos.
De acordo com os regulamentos, a ordem de partida para a derradeira especial, entre A-Hofuf e Dammam, com 136 quilómetros cronometrados, será feita pela ordem inversa da classificação geral.
Ou seja, Price, que venceu as edições de 2016 e 2019, vai partir atrás dos seus mais diretos adversários e já com a pista marcada, o que ajuda em termos de navegação. Kevin Benavides procura a segunda vitória, depois de ter vencido a edição de 2021, ainda com a Honda gerida pelo português Ruben Faria.
Nos veículos ligeiros, Ricardo Porém (Yamaha) surge no terceiro lugar das classificações provisórias da etapa, a 06.26 minutos do vencedor, o norte-americano Mitchell Guthrie (BFG).
