O piloto português João Ferreira (Yamaha), navegado por Filipe Palmeiro, venceu no domingo a oitava etapa entre os veículos ligeiros protótipos na 45.ª edição do rali Dakar de todo-o-terreno, que se disputa na Arábia Saudita.
O piloto leiriense, campeão nacional e europeu de todo-o-terreno, concluiu os 346 quilómetros cronometrados entre Al Duwadimi e Riade com o tempo de 4:11.36 horas, deixando o segundo classificado da categoria T3, reservada aos protótipos, para o chileno Francisco Lopez (Can-Am), a 17 segundos. O norte-americano Mitchell Guthrie (Can-Am), líder da geral da categoria, foi terceiro, a 02.02 minutos.
Esta é a primeira vitória de João Ferreira no Dakar, depois de ter sido segundo classificado na quarta etapa e terceiro na sétima, tornando a Yamaha no primeiro construtor a vencer etapas em duas e quatro rodas.
João Ferreira assumiu o comando ao quilómetro 90, não mais perdendo a liderança.
Na mesma categoria, Hélder Rodrigues (Can-Am) foi o sétimo mais rápido, a 06.02 minutos do compatriota, com João Ré, que navega o saudita Saleh Alsaif (Can-Am) na 12.ª posição.
Nas motas, o piloto do Botswana Ross Branch (Hero) foi o mais rápido, com 03.15 minutos de vantagem sobre o australiano Daniel Sanders (GasGas), com o norte-americano Mason Klein (KTM) em terceiro, a 3.33 minutos, diferença que já inclui uma penalização de dois minutos por excesso de velocidade, que lhe roubou a liderança da prova.
Essa mantém-se, assim, na posse do norte-americano Skyler Howes (GasGas), que hoje foi 19.º e cedeu 15 minutos para os primeiros.
O argentino Kevin Benavides (KTM) é, agora, o segundo, a 01.13 minutos, e Klein o terceiro, com o mesmo tempo. O australiano Toby Price (KTM) desceu para quarto, a 02.58 minutos.
Nos automóveis, também foi uma penalização a fazer a diferença, pois o espanhol Carlos Sainz (Audi), que foi dado como primeiro vencedor, sofreu cinco minutos de penalização e caiu para terceiro da etapa.
A vitória ficou, assim, para o francês Sébastien Loeb (BRX), com 02.11 minutos de vantagem sobre o líder da geral, o catari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota), com Sainz em terceiro, a 03.31 minutos.
Al-Attiyah aumentou ligeiramente a sua vantagem no comando da prova, com 01:03.46 horas de vantagem sobre o sul-africano Henk Lategan (Toyota), seu companheiro de equipa, e 01:20.22 horas sobre o brasileiro Lucas Moraes (Toyota).
Loeb subiu ao quarto lugar, mas já a 01:52.06 horas.
Na segunda-feira é dia de descanso na prova, com a competição a regressar na terça-feira, com 358 quilómetros cronometrados entre Riade e Haradh.
